Norsca, the renowned place of the Vikings. In the old tongue it was known as Midgard and is still mentioned in the sagas. It’s a harsh place to live, especially in the frozen marches.
They say a harsh country produces a harsh people, and the first impressions of these people certainly add weight to that comment.
You would rather have them fight alongside you on the battlefield rather than against you, as they are a fierce force equally at home both on land and at sea renowned for having the most robust Navy in the known world.
But, once you scratch the surface of this gruff exterior, there exists a colourful culture to amaze.
The people of Norsca are a very proud people who take their Oath as sacred and generally sworn before their gods. You will usually find that if a wolf breaks his oath another will make him keep it.
They not known to beg or go cap in hand but ask for aid rather than for handouts when needed. Should you find yourself stuck out in the dark and wander across a longhall you will always be offered succour and a place to warm your bones for the night. They are renowned for their generosity especially when it comes to drinking and the mead halls of the major cities are a great place to visit if you care for a horn or two of mead and don’t mind a sore head of a morn.
Odinshiem is the capital and seat of Lord Wolf. Not only being the seat of power but renowned for providing the best mead halls in Norsca.
Thorsgard is the ancestral home for the Black wolves and the First Port of Norsca.
Vorsgarrd is the home of the White wolf and second port of Norsca. Also within these lands fall the vast lumber forests, which feed the naval yards etc.
Tain near the mountains is a great seat of learning and holds the great library.
Northern Marches is home to the hardiest of the peoples of Norsca the Ice wolves it is said that there are areas that never thaw out there and so the Indigenous people spend many long hours indoors crafting and brewing.
As mentioned, there are three mountain ranges that form an almost unbroken wall across the land separating most of Norsca from the rest of the Continent The Skaldie Mountains to the North followed by the Fenris teeth and the Troll Wall at the lower end.
These Mountains act as a natural barrier and are inhabited by giants. The main route through the mountain is the Heimdaller pass, which is guarded and generally safe. In winter the pass becomes very difficult to cross and trade usually stops over the two worst months. The first town you would encounter coming into Norsca from this pass is Aurophellia. It has also been nick names Nors-vagas. It is a ostensibly a trading post, but is used by those with time on their hands to go hunting in either of the two forests it nestles between. It also caters for those that care to take a wager or wish to purchase that special item not normally found on the open market.
So, in short, come to Norsca you’ll love it.
