The Thing
Praise be to...
Weregild
Ullr's Ring
The Havamal
The Laws

We have a few customs specific to Norsca.

The Thing

Firstly, The Thing, pronounced 'ting', this is a general meeting of the people, usually at midnight. See the link for more details.

Praise be to...

Secondly, there's Praise be to... and the response. This is a call for Norscans to praise the specified person/group and draws the Gods' attention to it. It runs something like :-

Nevvyn - Praise be the Honoured Fallen
The Wolf Faction - The Honoured Fallen be Praised.

As it draws the attention of the Gods, it should not be used lightly.

Weregild

Weregild or wergild is a payment for unlawful killing of a Norscan. It is traditionally equal to seven times the annual income of the deceased - the amount has to be agreed by the relatives / group leader of the deceased.

If the weregild is accepted that is seen as an end to the matter.

Ullr's Ring

In the case of a major dispute where the honour of a Norscan is in doubt, Ullr's Ring may be invoked to settle it. The rest of the wolves form a ring around the two warriors, who fight to determine the truth of the matter. Ullr guides the fight and ensures that the the one in the right will win. The outcome of Ullr's ring is absolutely final and unquestionable.

As with "Praise be...", Ullr's ring calls on the gods and should never be undertaken lightly.

The Havamal

Or "Odin's words", The Havamal is.... well, it's the Havamal.

The Laws

The codified Laws of Norsca are judged by the Magistrates and enforced by the will of the people.

Praise be to...

During Thing, which is generally to Odin, please don't shout 'Praise be to Fenris!'

Although us Niflheimers like to praise Fenris, I don't want Odin cursing all Wolves.

For those of you who haven't realised by now, why we shouldn't praise Fenris at Thing, read the story of Ragnarok.
Fenris devours Odin.
Not a clever thing to do whilst on the phone to Odin...
